The Coat Hanger

This story was sent to me by a friend. I wanted to pass it along for two reasons:

First, it is a reminder that God shows up in many different forms. We never know for sure, but the old man with unkempt hair and a scruffy beard, standing against the storefront with a bottle in his hand concealed (so he thinks) by a brown paper bag COULD be an angel sent by God. Who are we to judge those that God puts in our path? Read more..

The Power of Small Groups

When I first moved to Las Vegas, my husband and I looked for a new church to join. We wanted to stay fairly close to home (believe it or not, Las Vegas is HUGE!), so we first looked in the phone book to find churches close by.

We set out one Sunday to drive by three local churches, just to see what we thought. The first church was SO small, we had a hard time even finding it. We decided against something so small. The second church was a nice size, but there wasn’t a white person to be found. We felt a little intimidated and out of our realm. The third church was HUGE, bigger than any we’d been in before. We weren’t sure how that would feel–would we be lost? Sort of like Goldilocks, but actually NONE of them seemed to fit! Read more..

What is Satan Worried About?

On the way to work today, this thought came to me: if you have accepted Jesus Christ as the Son of God and your Savior, and know that he died for your sins, you have been given the free gift of salvation. If you’ve been given the free gift of salvation, you can’t lose it. So, if you can’t lose your salvation, why then is Satan still worried about you and why does he keep attacking you???

Within a minute of that thought, I had my answer–at least one answer. The word “lose”. You cannot “lose” your salvation. You can, however, give it up by choice. Read more..

A Passionate Plea to my God

Lord, I know you can do all things. You are bigger than I can even fathom, Lord; big enough to do what my mind cannot even comprehend. My mind, which you have so wondrously created, is so intricate and complex.

My body, with each of it’s parts that all work together, was wonderfully and fearfully knitted together in my mother’s womb. Me, I am but a speck of dust, and yet you thought of me, created me, knew me before I was even conceived. You made me to be perfect in your eyes. You made me to love you and to be loved by you. Attacked or Refined?

Christians who are new to the faith are often under the impression that life is going to be “rosy” now that they have God on their side. Ah, if only it were true.

I’ve been a Christian for many years, but only what I call a “true” Christian for maybe five years. And during that time, God has made some beautiful changes in me. But, I’m not finished yet. There’s lots more to do and God is still working on me!

But these last couple of weeks have been strange. I found myself doing and saying things that were so out of character for me. I had a verbal “cat fight” with a friend. I told a co-worker that he “looked like hell”. Read more..

How To Reconcile God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit

When you’re a new believer (or even a non-believer), it’s often difficult to understand how God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit can all be one. This is how I reconcile the Trinity for myself. I hope the explanation will help you understand. There is the Godhead (which we know as God). The Godhead, however, has three distinct personalities, if you would, each with it’s own purpose.

God is the creator and the adopter. He has adopted us into His family. We are His children. When we think of Him, it should be as a Father. Fathers (most) love their children unconditionally. Read more..

The Pastor and His Son

Every Sunday afternoon, after the morning service at the church, the Pastor and his eleven year old son would go out into their town and hand out Gospel Tracts. This particular Sunday afternoon, as it came time for the Pastor and his son to go to the streets with their tracts, it was very cold outside, as well as pouring down rain.

The boy bundled up in his warmest and driest clothes and said, “Ok, dad, I’m ready.” Read more..

First Minutes

Monday night I attended WOW–Women of the Word. This is a great group of ladies who gather to worship the Lord and study His word.

Cathy spoke about “First Minutes”, a way to make sure you keep Jesus before you all day long. And by keeping Jesus before you, you grow in your relationship with Him and your ability to hear Him “speak” to you increases greatly. It is one thing to study and worship. But in order to have a close, intimate relationship with the Lord, we must “be still” and listen to what He has to say.

We pray often, but do we “listen” to what He says? I have a friend who, years ago, used to tell me about conversations she would have with God. At the time, I couldn’t understand. How does God speak to you? Do you hear Him? It is audible? But since I’ve grown in the Lord, I totally understand. No, it is not an audible whisper (although it can be). For me, it is usually a sense of urgency about something, a thought that the Holy Spirit puts into my head, a coincidence–or something I think is a coincidence but is actually from the Holy Spirit.

Getting back to “First Minutes”, the idea is that at every “first” of your day, you spend a couple minutes in prayers of thanks. When you first get up, when you first eat breakfast, when you first take your shower, when you first leave for work, when you arrive at work, etc. You get the idea. Just a minute or two spent with God, but those few minutes spent throughout your day keep your focus on Him and allow your relationship to grow. Try it and see what happens!

For God So Loved The World

“FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONE AND ONLY SON, THAT WHOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM SHALL NOT PERISH, BUT HAVE ETERNAL LIFE. JOHN 3:16?

A Heart For Jesus … my heart.

Jesus is my Lord and Savior. I am a sinner, saved only by the blood of Jesus. Jesus took on all my sins and became a living sacrifice to atone for my sins — past, present and future. He died so that I may live. What a profound statement! What an awesome thought. Do you know of anyone who would do that for you? All He asks is that we believe, repent and accept Him as our personal Lord and Savior. There is nothing more that we have to do. We are guaranteed a place in Heaven for eternity. WOW! Let that sink in for awhile. WE ARE GUARANTEED A PLACE IN HEAVEN FOR ETERNITY! And no, there is nothing more that I HAVE to do! But just the thought of Jesus giving up so much for me and God’s love and abiding grace make me WANT to Read more..
